Spiritual Basis

The young man sat feeling very sorry for himself, everything that he had worked for over the last 10 years had been taken away in the space of less than a month.

His feelings of failure and inadequacy permeated his soul, it was not only for himself that he felt this way but for his wife who had stood by him and sacrificed everything because she believed in him, his parents-in-law who trusted his decisions and of course his children.

Not only this but would wake up at 2am regular as clockwork in a cold sweat, paralyzed by fear and failure.

It was then that the old man started to visit the young man again after 10 years of absence, the old man had been a continual visitor throughout the young mans life. He first met him when he was very young, his earliest recollections of the old man was when he was about 3 or 4 and in those days he called him the Captain and he was the young mans constant companion until he was about 6 years of age. The young man had always been a loner as a child and the Captain gave him someone to talk too, he never judged and he was always there when needed to give words of encouragement and understanding.

The next time that the old man came into the young mans life was when he was 15, it was then that the old man told the young man that he was going to be famous and well regarded, but to achieve that would require sacrifice. Now as the young was not very good academically and quite good at sport he thought "I know I am going to become an international athlete" even though at the time, he was no better than school team standard.

So the young man worked and worked at developing his abilities, this of course meant sacrificing other parts of his life but he was so driven by the dream that he did not worry about the sacrifices he was making. Finally at the age of 19 he had managed to get to being ranked at number 2 in the whole of the UK and number 6 in Europe.

It was then that his couch dropped the bombshell that would send the young mans life in another direction. "If you want me to continue couching you You must take Steroids if you don't it will show me that you have no commitment to the sport and I can no longer train you!"

After a huge amount of soul searching the young man finally agreed to take the drug, fully aware that it was cheating and heavy of heart because he valued the couches opinion and thought that he was a friend. But he then also recognized also that the only person the couch was really interested in was himself and his own standing within the sport.

The young man was fully aware of the effects of the drug he was taking, but he was totally unprepared for the physical and emotional changes that happened over the next 3 weeks. So much so that he became a different person, this frightened him so much that along with the sense of guilt he made the decision to give up sport altogether. You see for the young man sport was just that sport and the person who won won because they were the best and not the person who was taking the best drugs.

This was a very difficult period of the young mans life, he had thrown away the potential of a good education and a good career all in the pursuit of a goal that was meaningless, and a sadness that people he had looked up too and respected where only interested in their own standing within the world. It was at this point that the young man lost his naivety.

Because of everything that had been lost and destroyed the young man stopped listening to the Old Man and said "I am going to listen to my parents and accept mediocrity and just go into a job that gives me security". So the young man went into banking.

For 3 years the young man worked in a job he hated, the old man during this phase was always saying to the young man "you are so much more than this existence go out and experience the world" The young mans answer was always the same" I am nothing what have I got to offer anyone"

The young man was then promoted to work as a cashier and started to meet the public something he was quite good at because he treated everyone with a warm welcoming manor and humor. It was then that one of the older cashiers took the young man under her wing and said to him one day "do you know that you are so much more than this job go out and find yourself something that suits your personality"

Sometime later she opened the local newspaper and showed the young man a picture of an absolutely stunning blond and said "that is the girl for you, you deserve someone like that"

But still the young man did not want to believe that he was worthy, and continued in a job he hated with his very soul, then one day one of his regular clients who was a very attractive girl way beyond the young mans expectations passed a note under the screen saying "will you go out with me for a drink". Totally flabbergasted that anything as good as this should happen the young man went on the date and the first thing the girl said was "you are so much more than this you should be in sales"

Suddenly the young man had the answer he was looking for, go into sales. The young man applied for one job in sales, the salary was twice what he had been earning plus it came with a car. In reality he had no expectation of getting the job because it was so far beyond his dreams, so he went to the interview with no dreams and was just using the interview as a form of experience. What then happened during the interview was very strange to the young man it was as if he stepped out of his body and someone else answered the questions. What was even stranger was that the young man was then offered the job straight away.

The young man was then filled with dread, what if he couldn't do the job, he would surely fail again all of these thoughts filled his mind going round and round, the old man continued to say you will succeed, do not worry about failure for if you do you will surely become a self fulfilling prophesy. This put the young mans mind at rest.

The young man then handed his notice in at the bank at which he worked, the next day he couldn't understand why his face ached so much well that was until he smiled anyway because he suddenly realized that he had been smiling for 24 hours straight.

So the young man went into sales and he was very good quickly becoming the top salesman within the company, yet he was not happy for every day he had to put on a mask that was extrovert and outgoing yet, that was not him he was far happier being someone who was quiet and shy. For 2 years he spent his time selling not in the traditional way but learning about people and trusting his instinct on when he was going to sell and not sell this infuriated his bosses yet because he was still at the top of the tree they did not push the issue. The old man talked to him about this saying "this is not your destiny, but is a temporary interlude so that you may understand others and learn to trust your instinct".

The young mans social life at this moment was a period of very temporary relationships quickly moving from one girl to the next, truly playing the role of the unattached salesman, then one night he met a girl and the strangest thing happened, it was as if he had known her all his life, there was an understanding that went beyond normal existence. Within 2 months they were engaged and married within the year. The young man had met his soul mate.

He also went on to discover that the girl he married was the same girl that he had seen the picture of in the newspaper that the women in the bank had shown him coincidence or what.

Once the young got married he felt that the right way forward was to look for security and to this end he decided that he would join the family firm. The old man said to him "this is not your destiny" yet the young man knew better and felt that for everyone, his wife their future children. This was the best way to go. As it was his salary was reduced by over half yet he still felt that he was making the right decision.

He stayed there for 2 years again very unhappy because any ideas he had to move the company forward were always thwarted, he saw people stealing from the company yet every time he raised the issue with his father the issue was ignored or swept under the carpet. On a psychological level he felt very low and lost his self belief, it was only his wife that gave him the strength to face every day.

Finally things came to a head one day when expecting their first child the young man went to his father explained that he needed more in the way of income because of the forthcoming child. His Father looked at him and said "what makes you think you are worth it." The young man replied "I am worth whatever I can get elsewhere!" Needless to say that was when the old man returned to the young mans life again and said "you are again going in the right direction"

So the young man went into construction, buying, selling and developing properties, the idea came to him from the old man and for that he was grateful.

It was during this time that the young mans Grandparents died both suddenly within about 8 hours of each other, his grandmother died first and he went to visit his Grandfather on the morning of her death and he said "I can die in peace now, because I knew your Grandmother could not survive alone in the world without me and I have waited for her departure" strangely there was no pain when he said this just a calm acceptance. That afternoon the young mans grandfather went to sleep and did not wake up, apparently his heart just stopped beating.

Two days later the young man was watching television with his wife when suddenly he felt a tingle up his spine "what is that" he said to his wife, knowing that she understood such things as she had told him of various experiences she had had with spirits and ghosts. "Oh" she said "that is your grandfather", to which the old man said "she is right you know."

So without thinking the young man said "Ok how do I see him" she replied "Well imagine in your minds eye that you can see him and you will" With that thought in his mind the Young man was able suddenly see his grandfather and communicate with him. The sense of well being that permeated the young man was astounding something he would never forget.

It was at this point that the old man said to the young man "I will be leaving for a while, now that you have your Grandfather to talk to, he will guide you for the next few years of your life and I will return when it is his turn to move on"

The Young Mans financial life went from strength to strength and on an inner level there was growth and understanding as he communicated daily with his Grandfather.

However the young man also decided that he needed to understand more why and what he was experiencing the things that had happened to him.

It was suggested to him by a friend that he visit a Spiritualist church, the suggested seemed the right thing to do so at the next opportunity he went to a local church. The meeting seemed very strange to him because everyone there seemed so eager to get a message, whereas the young man was only looking for some understanding, Divine guidance if you like.

At the end of the meeting the young man was very disillusioned and decide that this was not his pathway, so he turned his back and was about to leave when an elderly woman approached him and said "Young man I run a circle at my house and I have been guided to ask you to come are you interested"

Needless to say the young man was at the womans house the very next week feeling very nervous and apprehensive as he knew that he was about to step on the next rung of the ladder. Little did he know how big of a leap it was going to be.

The meeting started everyone sitting in a circle, but straight away people started to complain the the young mans energy was disrupting them so there then followed a game of musical chairs until everyone was happy, as you can imagine already feeling nervous and then being accused of a disruptive energy frayed his nerves even more.

Initially the group was guided through a simple meditation, this was something the young man had never done in the past so again there was a sense of strangeness, Suddenly he could see that he was flying, he looked around and he could see that he had wings and had turned into an eagle, his vision was extraordinary he found that he could see the smallest particle and he felt and saw that everything in life was interlinked with an energy and that the smallest atom was the same as the largest mountain and visa versa. But above all he recognized that behind everything was the same power of creation and an overwhelming sense of love.

Without any warning he felt himself propelled outside of his body and he looked down at himself in the circle. There was no feeling of fear only that the experience was totally surreal. The instant this happen he felt a small wind and his perception was that his body had changed into that of a small Tibetan monk. The Monk then started to tell the group about the interconnectedness of life and that all you had to do was to feel gods love in everything.

At this the woman who was leading the group shouted at the young mans body "You cannot do this you are too new to this type of experience to be able to control what is happening get out and return to your body now". At this remark the young mans body/Tibetan replied "Just because the Young man has not done this in this lifetime does not mean that he has not done this many times in previous incarnations and should be teaching you".

The response from the woman leading the circle was one of absolute consternation as you can imagine and she told the young man that he was not welcome at her circle anymore and that he was never to darken her doorstep ever again. The young man was very confused as he felt he was not responsible for what had occurred. So on the way home he asked his grandfather what had occurred only to be informed that what had happened that night was just to show him who he was. The young man found out later that the woman who lead the circle had been trying to be a channel for over 20 years and part of the anger she displayed was because of jealousy.
